It Doesn’t Get Any Bigger Than These Airports

Airports cater to millions of people each year and thousands every day, so the need for them to be large is rather a fundamental one. There are lots of large airports in the world, but some are – in the true sense of the word – mammoth. Note that this list is based on the surface area of the airport, so even if an airport handles more people overall, the largest here is the one with the largest area. Here is the list.

Charles De Gaulle Airport in Paris is the 5th largest airport in the world occupying an area of 3100 hectares (1 hectare = 100 acres). This airport is filled with shops, bars and restaurants. In 4th is the Pudong International Airport in Shanghai, it is spread over a massive 3350 acres. This vast structure serves many airlines and is also the 3rd busiest by cargo traffic.

A former military aircraft field, King Fahd InternationalAirport in Saudi Arabia is the 3rd largest in the world by area. It has an area of 3410 hectares. The Airport is lavish with a multi-tiered car park, an exclusive room for smoking, shops and other kinds of services.

The Denver International Airport in Denver, Colorado comes in 2ndat 4200 hectares. By passengers served in the last 12 months, it is the world’s 19th busiest (53 million passengers).

At number one among the 5 largest airports in the world is the Fort Worth International Airport. It is 4360 hectares and has movie theatres, barbershops, and animal relief areas.
